Allied Christians of Tioga (ACT) Meal
Who: Anyone
When: First Thursday of each month
Call: Kathy Medovich at 659-3350
The Allied Christians of Tioga is a not-for-profit charitable organization serving the physical and spiritual needs of children and adults of Tioga County. ACT is sponsored by the churches of Tioga County, both with money and with volunteers. ACT has been in existence for 20 years under its present name (it was formerly the Tioga County Council of Churches). ACT was born out of the vision of several area pastors to reach the people of Tioga County wherever there was a need, through the message of Good News of God's love through Jesus Christ.
St Paul's is one of 13 participating Tioga County churches.
ACT Dinner
A free hot meal is provided every Thursday at 6:00pm, at the Methodist Church on Main Street in Owego. Each year, a total of roughly 5,000 meals are prepared and served. St. Pauls responsibility includes supplying the food and the volunteers to set up, serve, and clean up after the meal on the 1st Thursday of the month. A sheet is posted on the bulletin board, where you can sign up to provide food or help with the meal. We are always looking for new volunteersdo come and join us.
Altar Memorial Flowers
Who: Anyone
When: 8:00am-12:00pm
Call: St. Paul's office at 687-2830 or Sign up on Bulletin Board
Among the sign-up sheets we have on the bulletin board is the schedule for Altar memorial flowers.
Please let the Church office know what you would like in the bulletin for your memorial or thank offering.
The customary donation is $25.00. Checks should be made out to St. Pauls Church, with Flowers on the memo line. Placing your check in an envelope marked Altar Memorial Flowers, also, helps us record these in the proper place for accounting purposes.
Christmas and Easter flowers and decorations are done separately.
Coffee Hour
Who: Anyone
When: Sundays following the 9:00am service
Call: Sign up on Bulletin Board
Is it your turn to host a Coffee Hour? Most of us enjoy gathering after the service in the great hall for a cup of coffee, and a chance to visit with our parish family, or to make newcomers feel welcome to St. Pauls.
Its more fun and less work if you do it with a friend, or your family, or your church group.
How do you host a Coffee Hour?
Sign up on the bulletin board for an open Sunday
Come early on that Sunday to have time to make regular and decaf coffee. The coffee is in the cupboard, along with instructions on how to make it. Heat some water on the stove to have ready if someone asks for tea. (Tea bags in cupboard.)
Pots, cups, napkins, sugar and tableware are all there. Be sure to use the items in the cupboards labeled for St. Paul’s, instead of the items labeled for Head Start.
Prepare drink for the children. Koolaid is usually there in the cupboard. Or, you can bring some other kind of juice.
Set a little basket on each table for contributions. This money is used to purchase supplies (like coffee, sugar, cups, etc.) for other Sundays. The Coffee Hour Committee takes care of making sure that there are supplies on hand.
What else do you need?
Milk for the coffee. A quart should be enough.
Goodies? Only if you wish. Your choice. Sometimes people bring:
Homemade or purchased baked goods
Cookies of some sort for the children
Ethnic treats
Fresh fruits or veggies
Anything else
Afterwards:
Pick up, wash the coffee pots, clean up the kitchen, and wipe all the tables.
Give the coffee hour contributions to one of the Wardens.
United Thank Offering (UTO)
Who: Anyone
When: Spring and Fall
Call: Laura Coppens at 727-3400
UTO is a ministry of the Episcopal Church that provides one of the ways for men, women, and children to give daily thanks to God. Through prayer and thankful giving of our gifts we reach out in the world. Each parish is asked to contribute to this mighty effort. With all the contributions it comes to 2.5 to 3 million every year for use in both domestic and international projects.
Over 100 grants are awarded each year. Applications that strive to create greater equity in the status of women and children as well as ones that address compelling human needs and expansion of mission and ministry are welcomed. Grants have been given for:
Expansion of an AIDS interfaith network
A missionary school in Kenya for language study and cultural orientation
Renovation of a parish hall for an adult care center
A van for an emergency food pantry that covers a vast rural area
A womens development center in Uganda
Expansion of a home for abandoned, neglected and abused children
The list goes on and on as there are so many critical needs throughout the world
How St. Pauls members can help: The UTO offering is collected twice a year; spring and fall at Thanksgiving. We can all help through our monetary donations. The discipline starts in our homes when we drop coins into our Blue Boxes which are provided by the church. Envelopes are also provided through the UTO mailing sent to each member for this ingathering. The UTO chairperson issues a letter in the spring and fall explaining this appeal. A group of volunteers assists with getting this mailing out to members. Anyone may volunteer to help with this mailing.
